I went for a walk yesterday and took a few cell phone pictures of this building on the corner of Washington Place and Greene Street. Until 2001, the Triangle Fire was the second worst disaster in New York City. Workers on the top floors, mostly women, were trapped because the only unlocked exit was blocked by fire. The owners had locked the other exits to prevent workers from stealing. 146 died, 129 were women, mostly Italian and Jewish immigrants. Many of them had jumped and were killed when they hit the pavement. The disaster led to legislation for safe working conditions, and the growth of the labor movement.

Universum.
All turning into One.The entire and whole cosmos of experience
turning into one universe,
a self-inclusive systematic whole,
whose word and image is the Standard Model.Field of reality and province of thought,
set of all known and postulated particles and forces,
Great is your number.
Great is the quantity of your population of elements,
All turning into One
Universe.I was glad when they said unto me,
Let us go into the particle accelerator
and celebrate the mystery of massand smash together subatomic particles flung at astounding speeds
so we can sift through the debris in the quest for
eternity in a yoctosecond,
infinity in one septillionth
of a twinkling of an Eye.

Figure

Liberty Plaza is now surrounded by police barricades. A mobile NYPD surveillance tower gives the park a prison camp look. I saw familiar faces, like retired Philadelphia police captain and the man from Queens who wants everyone to move their money out of the big banks. A discussion group was in progress. I was told that Jackson Browne showed up this week and played some songs. The park isn't necessary anymore, I believe, and the movement moves onward. It is still worth visiting.
