From Discovery News:
"Astronomers have found the remains of a once massive star, now transformed into a solid diamond five times bigger than earth."

Astronomers have discovered a planet made of diamond. The people who live on the diamond planet treasure shit above all other things. Not just human and animal excrement but also dead, rotting vegetation, and industrial waste. Industry on this planet is simple and green, although very sophisticated, a very advanced, eco-technological way of life. The "waste products" resulting from all production are really byproducts that have their own uses. Earth people didn't treasure their shit. "Shit," for them, was a dirty word. They had an abundance of shit and were sick of it.
Diamond people considered shit a gift, but earth people (aka shit people) refused to give any, and didn't want any given to them. They valued diamonds, which used to be relatively rare on earth. Being greedy creatures who don't give a shit, the shit planet straightaway invaded the diamond planet and plundered it, while refusing to take any shit from its inhabitants. When the alien diamonds flooded the market all diamonds lost most of their value and the market crashed and the stupid shits were in deep, well, you know.

I want to go back to sleep, but I can't, even though I only slept maybe three hours and it is still dark. Now that I briefly surfaced from bitter dreams and got a peek of the world I can't sleep anymore because the terrible light of reality is blazing on me.
When Lori is awake and we've had breakfast she will go on Facebook, so early morning or late night is when I do most of my social networking. So I open the box of faces and they look up at me like flowers at the sun and send me their prayers, thoughts, positive thoughts and vibrations, hopes for the best, sympathy, compassion, faith, and loving emoticons. I welcome them all. <3 <3 <3
Later, maybe, its waiting rooms, maybe with a TV on one of those court room shows where the working poor seek justice in front of a national audience of unfortunates trapped in waiting rooms and living rooms with no exit.

At home I keep checking online news to see if things will get worse. Maybe Hurricane Irene will come and blow out our windows and soak our art. Maybe Rick Perry will become president and take away our Medicaid.
Life has become an unending storm watch.

yesterday

Yesterday, about an hour before that big tremor, we learned that my wife has cancer. She had a biopsy on some breast lumps last week and the doctor called her. We learn more Thursday. She has surgery in ten days.
