work

The "Lord's Prayer," so-called, is often said by people who are unable to get their daily bread, due to conditions beyond their control, or who are in a debt that won't be forgiven by the usurers, or who's trespasses will be punished terribly, as they sit out their lives in prisons, or who were conned into a trap of self-delusion and self-destruction and are now overwhelmed by the consequences, or, who through no fault of their own, are snared in a medical or social condition without hope of being free, and by people who are undergoing a terrible time of being tested beyond their limits.

Out of this profound hunger and loss, these people say to an inconceivable cosmic parent, whose name is unspeakable,

THIS is what we need and
THIS is the inheritance that is our due, and
WHY have You abandoned us?

Opening from the Original Scroll.

"I first met Neal not long after my father died...I had just gotten over a serious illness that I won't bother to talk about except that it really had something to do with my father's death and my awful feeling that everything was dead. With the coming of Neal there really began for me that part of my life that you could call my life on the road."
